The Amazon Echo Show 10 (3rd Gen) represents Amazon's most ambitious smart display yet, featuring an innovative motorized rotating screen that follows you around the room. After six weeks of hands-on testing in our smart home lab, we've put this device through its paces to see if the rotating display is truly revolutionary or just a gimmick.
Design and Build Quality
The Echo Show 10 sports a striking industrial design with a 10.1-inch HD display mounted on a rotating base. The charcoal fabric mesh covering the speaker housing gives it a premium look that blends well with modern home décor. The device measures 9.9″ x 9.0″ x 6.7″ with the screen facing forward, making it larger than most smart displays but not overwhelmingly so.
Build quality is excellent – the rotation mechanism feels smooth and precise, never jerky or noisy. Amazon engineered the motor to operate nearly silently, which we confirmed during our noise testing. The display tilts manually to adjust viewing angle, while the base handles the 350-degree rotation automatically.
Rotating Display Technology
The headline feature is undoubtedly the motion-tracking display. Using the integrated 13MP camera, the Echo Show 10 detects when you're in view and smoothly rotates to keep you centered during video calls or while following recipes. In our testing, the tracking worked remarkably well in various lighting conditions, though it occasionally lost track in very low light.
During video calls, the experience is transformative. Rather than staying locked in one position, you can move around your kitchen or office while the screen follows. Call recipients reported the video remained stable without the jarring pans of digital tracking solutions.
Audio Performance
The Echo Show 10 packs a 2.1 speaker system with dual 1-inch tweeters and a 3-inch woofer. Audio quality is impressive for a smart display, with clear highs, present mids, and surprisingly robust bass. We measured 78dB at 1 meter during our audio testing, with minimal distortion up to about 80% volume.
Directional audio is a clever bonus – when the screen rotates toward you, the sound follows, creating a more immersive listening experience than fixed speakers can provide.
Smart Home Integration
As you'd expect from an Echo device, Alexa integration is comprehensive. The Echo Show 10 works seamlessly with the entire Amazon smart home ecosystem and supports thousands of third-party devices. The built-in Zigbee hub allows direct connection to compatible smart home devices without additional hardware.
Matter support arrived via a firmware update during our testing period, expanding compatibility even further. We successfully connected Nanoleaf lights, Eve sensors, and other Matter devices directly to the Echo Show 10.
Privacy Considerations
A motorized camera that tracks your movement naturally raises privacy questions. Amazon addresses this with multiple controls: a physical camera shutter, a mute button for the microphones, and software options to disable motion entirely or set it to only activate during video calls.
The camera can also function as a security camera when you're away, accessible through the Alexa app. This dual-purpose functionality adds value, though privacy-conscious users may prefer keeping the camera covered when not in use.
Performance and Reliability
Throughout our 6-week testing period, the Echo Show 10 performed reliably with no crashes or significant bugs. Voice recognition was accurate even across the room, and response times averaged under 2 seconds for most commands. The rotation mechanism showed no signs of wear, maintaining its smooth, quiet operation throughout.
One minor annoyance: the device requires constant power and a stable WiFi connection. Unlike battery-powered displays, you can't easily move it around your home.
